This is currently not used at all outside of a minor smoke test, which dates to the B2G era. This testing facility also appears to date to the B2G era. This uses a very old code pattern for restoring a component registration, which makes me think that it was not used even back in 2019, when bug 1524687 landed and cleaned up a lot of that.
